We spend a lot of time describing wine: Jasmine, Orange blossom, White peach.
But what if we described music the same way?
That afternoon, we visited Finca Las Nubes, high above Cafayate. We loved the winery and, left with a bottle of their Torrontés.
Back at our apartment, with winter setting in, the sensible option would have been to sit inside.
Instead, we wrapped ourselves in coats and had our apéritif outside, beneath a canopy of vines and lemon trees: It was freezing.
Then Viene de Mí came on.
La Yegros doesn’t ask for permission: Before you realise it, you’re tapping your foot.
A few seconds later, my daughters were dancing around the table.
It made me wonder whether music can do what food does for wine ?
A great pairing isn’t about finding two things that taste alike. It’s about revealing something that was already there.
Torrontés is Argentina’s signature white grape, and nowhere expresses it quite like Cafayate. At more than 1,700 metres above sea level, warm sunny days build its exuberant floral aromas, while cold nights preserve the freshness that keeps everything in balance.
Listening to Viene de Mí, I noticed that freshness more than ever.
The rhythm made the wine feel brighter and the wine made the music feel even more vibrant.
Each simply revealed another side of the other.
Maybe that’s what great music pairings are about: Not matching flavours to melodies but letting each tell you something new about the other.
Wine tasting note : Finca Las Nubes Torrontés
Nose: Intensely fragrant and fresh, with jasmine, rose, white peach and crisp citrus.
Body: Round and well-structured, with a smooth texture.
Palate: Fresh citrus and stone fruit, lifted by clean minerality.
Finish: Long, crisp and harmonious.
Music tasting note : Viene de Mí, La Yegros
Nose: Warm, earthy, with a distinctly Argentine accent.
Body: Generous and textured, driven by a persistent rhythmic pulse.
Palate: Folk roots layered with electronic notes, lively but never heavy.
Finish: Long and infectious. Difficult to remain entirely still.
